The Bay Terminal Marine Infrastructure Development Project will construct a 6 km climate-resilient breakwater to protect the harbor from the force of waves, current, and extreme weather. It will also carry out dredging of the port basin, entrance, and access channels.

A recent feasibility study showed that the access channel will be about 1.6 km long and 320 meters wide and the basin will be 5 km long and 600 meters wide.

The initial estimates indicate that around 30 million cubic meters of dredging will be required for the terminal basin and entrance channel.

The Bay Terminal, located in the Anandangar/Sandwip channel, west of the Chittagong port and close to existing road and rail links to Dhaka, is expected to handle 36 percent of Bangladesh’s container volumes.
