Hulhumale land reclamation resumes

Housing Development Corporation (HDC) has announced the continuation of the land reclamation operations for the Hulhumale’ Phase III.

Previously, they issued a directive mandating the removal of safaris within the coastal vicinity of the reclaimed land, as safety measures.

Initiated in September 2023, the dredging activities were put on hold as part of precautionary actions directed by the EPA.

HDC has contracted Sri Lankan-based Capital Marine and Civil Construction Company Private (CMCC) to reclaim a total of 63 hectares of new land under the Hulhumale’ Phase III project.

CMC deployed two dredging vessels for this massive land reclamation program. 

Looking forward, the company said that they plan to increase its fleet to three dredgers by the end of 2024.
