The 5-mile Federal channel will be widened and deepened from 35 feet to 40 feet to allow improved navigation efficiencies and safety.

According to Gina Romano, project geologist, the marine geophysical surveys will help identify the top of rock surface and quantify how much rock will need to be blasted during construction.

USACE expects that 4.32 million cubic yards of material, including 43,500 cubic yards of rock, will be dredged from the project.

The New England District plans to use a significant portion of the dredged material beneficially to improve or create new habitat within the harbor.
