Over time sand naturally fills in boating access channels like Werribee River entrance. For the last 20 years, dredging is being conducted at the entrance as part of Parks Victoria’s program to ensure safe boating access at key sites within Port Phillip and Western Port.

The maintenance dredging operations for the Werribee River entrance include the removal of sand from Werribee South Jetty which will be closed during the works.

Dredging will be carried out by a cutter suction dredge and excavator with dredged material being deposited on the beach, northeast of the River entrance.

The Werribee River dredging campaign is expected to take 3-4 weeks, depending on weather.
