The Maldives: President announces land reclamation of 30 hectares on Maavah Island

The Maldives’ President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu announced a reclamation project spanning 30ha of land on Maavah, Laamu Atoll, during his address to the residential community the island yesterday.

Initially planned for 15ha, the President disclosed that the reclamation project would expand to encompass a total of 30ha by its completion.

In addition, he highlighted the initiation of coastal protection measures to address the high tides on Maavah Island.

At the event, he also added that several significant projects with expenditures exceeding MVR 50 million ($3.2 million) will be initiated in the coming months, some of which will begin in July.
