The annual Port Hedland dredging works commenced in early February and are expected to be ongoing for four to six weeks.

The dredging operations are taking place inside the inner harbour, shipping channel, areas adjacent to the shipping channel and designated spoil grounds.

According to Pilbara Ports, the Juan Sebastián de Elcano will also undertake dredging of the Channel Entry, during which the dredge will widen the entry of the channel, reducing the risk to vessels entering the port.
