Senator Carper tours Roosevelt Inlet renourishment work

Delaware Senator Tom Carper joined the Philadelphia District U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and Delaware DNREC recently to survey important projects in Sussex County, including the renourishment at Roosevelt Inlet in Lewes.

This project was made possible thanks to $4.9M I helped secure through the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law,” said Carper.

The beach fill project extends from the southeast side of Roosevelt Inlet for a length of 1,400 ft.

According to USACE, the beach fill project is set to provide flood and coastal storm damage reduction to the community of Lewes Beach.

Under the nourishment plan, around 104,000 cubic yards of material will be placed from Roosevelt Inlet to an area between Iowa and Missouri avenues.

The sand is coming from a borrow site one-quarter mile offshore.
