According to the Corps, the all-sand beach nourishment of Downtown Montauk was initially scheduled for late 2025. Through advocation efforts of the East Hampton Town Board, the project will now be accomplished this winter under the FIMI PL84-99 Emergency Response contract.

Starting this week, the contractor will begin delivering heavy machinery and other equipment to downtown Montauk in preparation for the Fire Island Inlet to Montauk Point (FIMP) beach nourishment project.

For approximately two weeks, temporary road closures are planned for South Elder Ave, South Eton Ave and South Emerson Ave (Mobilization and de-Mobilization). Arrival of the hopper dredge ELLIS ISLAND is expected in late January/early February.

The Army Corps FIMP project is designed to manage the risk of coastal storm damage along Long Island’s Atlantic Coast in a way that balances risks to human life and property, while maintaining, enhancing, and restoring ecosystem integrity and coastal biodiversity.

The project includes placing approximately 450,000 cubic yards of dredged sand on to the beach, as well as beach fence and beach grass installation works.
