Beachfill operations move ahead in Lewes, Delaware

The Philadelphia District, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, has just released these amazing photos from the beachfill operations in Lewes, Delaware.

Work is designed to reduce to risk of storm damages to infrastructure.

According to USACE, the project should be completed sometime in January 2023.

The crews started pumping new sand December 14.

Steve Rochette, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Philadelphia District spokesman, said that the contract is for $4.9 million.

Under the nourishment plan, around 104,000 cubic yards of material will be placed from Roosevelt Inlet to an area between Iowa and Missouri avenues.

The sand is coming from a borrow site one-quarter mile offshore.
