It is one of the most exploited natural materials. Of course that doesn’t come without consequences. The social concern about the negative impact involved with the immense sand usage is growing. No need to explain, the dredging industry also has its role to play in this.

According to Jan De Nul expert Jan Fordeyn, sand is currently the most exploited raw material after water, and its use has tripled in the past twenty years.

“Entailing inevitable ecological, political, social, and economical consequences. Campaign groups around the world are sounding alarm bells, even if there is no obvious solution or alternative,” said Fordeyn. “The dredging industry actively takes to the stage to turn the tide. We have enormous amounts of valuable knowledge and experience at our disposal that can be utilised to turn negative impact into positive contributions.”
