According to Buller District Council, the dredge was beached in the fisherman’s basin at 7am on Sunday (27 August) and came off at 6pm.

Dredge Master Kawatiri Steve Christieson commented: “from time to time we need to inspect the dredge pipe trunnion for wear an adjustment. Generally, this is done when the dredge is on the slip however in order to ensure maximum production it is prudent to complete this more often.”

The dredge was beached between the slipway and the launching ramp as has been done several times over the last few years.

The vessel is operational, however routine maintenance is being completed today in preparation for crew change. If this is completed, dredging will be carried out this evening on the tide.
