According to DEME, trailing suction hopper dredger ‘Uilenspiegel’ will once again return to the country to create new land for the Abu Qir 2 port expansion project.

DEME is involved in this large-scale project creating land for the further growth and development of Abu Qir, which is set to become a bustling economic hub.

Several of the company’s green vessels have already worked on the project, deepening the port’s approach channel and dredging the turning basin in addition to the land reclamation scope.

The vast project includes reclamation of 1,000 hectares of new land, deepening of the port’s approach channel to 23m and the dredging of a turning basin to 22m.

Overall, an enormous amount of material is to be dredged – more than 150 million m³ – before the project is completed in late 2023.
