Van Oord’s new water injection dredger Rhône was recently launched at VAHALI Shipyards in Serbia.
By now Rhône has taken her first dive into the water and is on her way to the Kooiman Marine Group in Zwijndrecht, where the vessel will meet its sister vessel WID Rijn for outfitting.
Both newbuilds will be equipped with a hybrid energy management system and will be able to store energy in batteries that can be used later for propulsion and other purposes.
The new dredgers will comply with IMO TIER III legislation for reducing harmful NOx emissions and take account of EU STAGE V legislation.
According to Van Oord, the WID Rijn and Rhône will be commissioned in the first half of 2024.
