Transport for NSW Maritime has announced the successful completion of stage one of the Coffs Harbour boat ramp project.
The first stage of work included extending the break wall by 75 metres, widening the ramp to six lanes and carrying out dredging of the basin.
According to the officials, dredging by a land-based excavator is continuing, while a cutter suction dredge has been sourced and is due to commence work on the project.
In the coming weeks, the contractor, GPM Marine Constructions will remove approx. 10,000 cubic metres of sand from the inner harbour.
“We have engaged a consultant to provide options to manage sand migration at the boat ramp in the long term. This may include further structural work to the newly-extended breakwater or additional structures,” said Transport for NSW.
Officials also added that they have sourced funding to commence a sand transfer system trial at the boat ramp. Transport for NSW is currently in negotiation with a supplier to provide a concept design for this system. This system will use fixed jet pumps to dredge sand from the area.
Stage Two of the project, which includes realignment of Jordan Esplanade to provide extra spaces in the car park, a new amenities block and new rigging and derigging bays, is due to commence shortly.
