Congressman Higgins: $50M for Vermilion River dredging

Louisiana Congressman Clay Higgins announced yesterday that South Louisiana waterway projects received significant funding in the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers FY 2022 Work Plan.

“We continue to work closely with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and local stakeholders to prioritize funding for dredging and waterway projects in South Louisiana,” said Congressman Higgins.

“Notably, the FY22 Work Plan includes $50 million for Vermilion River dredging, and the Calcasieu River and Pass project saw a sizable increase in funding over the President’s budget request. These investments provide critical support for our ports, waterways, locks, and flood control infrastructure across South Louisiana.”

For Operation & Maintenance, projects in Louisiana’s 3rd District were awarded:

  • $14.23 million for the Atchafalaya River & Bayous Chene, Boeuf, and Black.
  • $50.03 million for the Vermilion River.
  • $50,000 for the Bayou Teche.
  • $37.896 million for the Calcasieu River & Pass.
  • $1.88 million for Freshwater Bayou.
  • $54.928 million for the Gulf Intracoastal Waterway.
  • $6.13 million for the Mermentau River.

 For Construction, projects in Louisiana’s 3rd District were awarded:

  • $9 million for Calcasieu River & Pass.
  • $10 million for the Southwest Coastal Louisiana Hurricane Protection Project.
