Weipa annual dredging kicks off

Operations & Maintenance

North Queensland Bulk Ports Corporation has just announced that their annual maintenance dredging program at the Port of Weipa has kicked off.

Port of Brisbane

Hydrographic surveyors arrived in Weipa last week to complete pre-dredge surveys, with the Port of Brisbane’s TSHD Brisbane scheduled to arrive this weekend, announced NQBP.

“Maintenance dredging works are an integral part of the port operations and will help us keep trade flowing,” the company officials said. “This year works will take up to eight weeks. Extra time is needed after a series of severe weather events.”

They also added that the maintenance dredging will be conducted in line with all approvals and permits, including a range of strict environmental conditions.

Environmental monitoring and management measures will also be implemented throughout the campaign to minimise the risk of any potential impacts on the marine environment.

NQBP has managed the annual maintenance dredging program at the Port of Weipa for more than 35 years.
