Rosmorport testing autonomous ship technologies

Research & Development

Testing of equipment installed on FSUE “Rosmorport” vessels, the hopper barge Rabochaya and dredger Redut, is underway as part of the unmanned navigation project, the Russian company informs.

Rosmorport

The aim of the project is to introduce unmanned navigation of the Independent Non-Profit Organization MARINET Industry Center of the National Technology Initiative.

According to Rosmorport, the tests are carried out in the area of the Gelendzhik seaport. “Kronshtadt Technologies” JSC is engaged in the development and testing of high-tech equipment for unmanned navigation.

At the moment, the search system, the RVTMS subsystem (regional vessel traffic management system) and the video surveillance subsystem on vessels have been checked.

Previously in February 2020, the hopper barge Rabochaya made the first autonomous trip within the framework of the project. During the trip, the crew monitored and checked ability of the hopper barge to recognize targets and offer the optimal maneuvering route.

The enterprise expects that in the future, one crew on the lead ship (dredger) will be able to manage simultaneously all the vessels of the convoy.

This will reduce the number of personnel needed for each vessels and improve the coordination of their work. In case of successful completion of pilot project, the remote and automatic control of the dredging caravan vessels can be considered a contribution of FSUE “Rosmorport” to the innovative development of the shipping world.
