“We are getting ready for our first ever virtual naming ceremony of our next generation trailing suction hopper dredgers ‘Meuse River’ and ‘Bonny River’,” the company announced.

“Although we can’t hold our traditional naming ceremony at this time, we couldn’t let this special fleet milestone pass by,” said DEME.

“Reflecting these state-of-the-art vessels, we are also fully embracing digital technology with our godmothers performing the ceremony remotely,” stated DEME.

The 7.950m³ trailing suction hopper dredger Meuse River features several energy smart technologies, developed by DEME and IHC. These include a hybrid dredge pump drive system to reduce the effect of load variations. For automation of the dredging process, IHC developed the intelligent IHC ECO automation package, which results in high dredge performance.

On the other hand, the arrival of the 15,000m³ ‘Bonny River’ marks the introduction of a new generation of trailing suction hopper dredgers (TSHD). This vessel is able to dredge very hard soils and can work in deep waters of more than 100m.

With these new additions and continued investment in its fleet, DEME aims to take the lead in the industry by featuring innovative technologies and improved operational performance.
