The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers’ Galveston District and the Cedar Bayou Navigation District (CBND) are set to begin construction of the Cedar Bayou Channel Improvement Project.
Construction of the project is expected to begin February 2020.
A Project Partnership Agreement was formally signed by USACE Galveston District and CBND on September 23, which initiates the Channel Improvement Project.
“In many respects, this project is not just about the channel itself, but the economic development and the relationships with our partners, who are really going to return the value to the American people,” said Col. Timothy R. Vail, commander at the USACE Galveston District.
“This project will have benefit for the community, benefit for the industry and for the citizens of the area,” added Tim Tyler, Cedar Bayou Navigation District chairman of the board.
The channel project seeks to normalize an eight mile stretch of the existing navigation channel from mile marker three to the upper end of State Highway (SH) 146.
According to USACE, the channel will be improved to a depth of 10’ and a width of 100’.
