VIDEO: Building Dredge Pipeline for Cairns Shipping Project

Business & Finance

Ports North has just released this very interesting video about construction works on a dredge pipeline, part of the Cairns Shipping Development Project.

Under the project, the trailing suction hopper dredger (TSHD) Balder R will remove soft clays from the channel, which will then be pumped along this 8km long pipeline to a dedicated site at the Northern Sands mine.

Dredging works started earlier this month and are expected to be complete mid-September, with the second dredger Woomera scheduled to join the works in late July.

Highlighting importance of the Cairns Shipping Development Project, Member for Cairns, Michael Healy MP, said that this expansion program will allow for the cruise ships up to 300m in length to enter the Cairns Port, bringing with them thousands of tourists ready to spend their money on local businesses and experiences.
