The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Mobile District’s Walter F. George Lake Project is closing public access to both the Alabama and Georgia-side dikes to repair damage resulting from Hurricane Michael.
Closure started yesterday, beginning with the Alabama side of the dike.
The Georgia side will close (with an announcement via WFG Lake Project’s Facebook Page ) after repairs have completed on the Alabama side.
The temporary closure is expected to last approximately six to eight weeks.
“This closure will allow for crews to conduct temporary repairs to the rip rap armor that was damaged during Hurricane Michael, ” said William Hancock, chief ranger at WFG Lake Project .
According to the USACE Mobile District’s latest release, during this time period no foot or vehicle traffic will be permitted on the dikes.
