USACE Hosts Flood Meeting in Houston

The meeting was held April 25 at Memorial Drive United Methodist Church in Houston, the Galveston District of U.S. Army Corps of Engineers said in its latest releaes.

Within Representative Fletcher’s 7th Congressional District, USACE Galveston District is currently completing a $75 million Addicks and Barker Dam Safety construction project, replacing the two dams at the Addicks and Barker reservoirs.

The Galveston District is also partnering with the Fort Bend Drainage District to desilt Buffalo Bayou, and is currently in the process of holding public scoping meetings for the Buffalo Bayou and Tributaries Resiliency Study.

This study will identify and evaluate the feasibility of reducing flood risks on the Buffalo Bayou, both upstream and downstream of Addicks and Barker Reservoirs in Harris County, Texas, while simultaneously completing a Dam Safety Modification Evaluation on the two dams.

Also answering agency specific questions were Russ Poppe of the Harris County Flood Control District, Ben Akers of the FEMA Texas Recover Office, Sheri Willey of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Galveston District, and Scott Hudman of HUD.
