As part of this, a short questionnaire has been developed to help understand the direct and indirect impacts of coastal flooding and erosion on Hayling Island and the wider borough’s economy.

The results of this survey will be used to identify the wider economic benefits of any potential future Flood and Coastal Erosion Risk Management (FCERM) measures on the island.

The types of measures have not yet been determined and will be dependent on further studies however, they can take the form of flood defenses, erosion protection or flood warning plans.

The majority of Hayling Island is low-lying with a history of serious flood incidents. There are a variety of different coastal defenses around the island, of which a high proportion have a low residual life without further maintenance.
