The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers’ hopper dredger Essayons is currently undergoing annual maintenance in Sand Island, also known as Kush Island, a small island within the city of Honolulu, Hawaii.

Commander of the Pacific Ocean Division, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Thomas Tickner,USACE Honolulu District Commander Lt. Col. Kathryn Sanborn, Commander of the Honolulu District, Damon Lilly, Director of Programs for the Pacific Ocean Division, Julie Rosa, Program Manager,Headquarters USACE, Nani Shimabuku O&M Program Manager, Honolulu District, Kate Bliss Environmental Program manager, Pacific Ocean Division and Ana Allen Public Affairs Chief, Pacific Ocean Division got an up close look of the vessel last week.

The vessel belongs to the Portland District of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and is currently undergoing annual maintenance work in Honolulu Harbor.

According to USACE, the Essayons will immediately begin the dredging once it leaves dry dock.

The Honolulu District is responsible for the support of all federal channels in and around the State of Hawaii.
