The US Army Corps of Engineers, Los Angeles District, has just released a copy of the Draft Supplemental Environmental Assessment ( SEA ) for the Modification to the Port Hueneme Deepening Project located in Ventura County, California.

The purpose of the proposed project is to improve efficient accommodation of larger, deep-draft vessels; increased cargo efficiency of product delivery; and reduced overall transit costs.

The project calls for the deepening of federal channels by dredging and disposal of approximately 390,000 cubic yards of sediment.

According to the Corps, the project would also provide beneficial uses for most of the dredged sediments as nourishment at Hueneme Beach, either directly onto the beach or into the nearby nearshore area.

Construction works on the project are planned to begin in June 2019.

The deadline for sending comments on the proposed work is April 1, 2019.
