The Vancouver Fraser Port Authority (VFPA) will host an event titled ‘Dredging the Mighty Fraser River’ on November 14, 2018, at the George Mackie Library, 8440 112 Street, Delta, Greater Vancouver, Canada.
Every year, the Fraser River deposits about 32 million cubic meters of sediment into the Strait of Georgia.
To provide a safe and efficient waterway for ocean-going vessels, an annual average of 3.5 million cubic meters of sediment is dredged from the deep sea channel as part of the Vancouver Fraser Port Authority’s maintenance dredging program.
The event will include the following topics:
Guest speaker is Tino Isola, Vice President, Dredging and Surveying Fraser River Pile and Dredge Inc.
This event is a partnership between George Mackie Library and the Port of Vancouver Delta Community Office.
Port of Vancouver Dredging Philosophy
The Vancouver Fraser Port Authority (VFPA) is responsible for providing safe & unimpeded access for vessels to terminals at the Port of Vancouver.
Ensuring appropriate water depth is a primary component to this safe access and often requires dredging – the removal of sediment – from the Fraser River seabed.
VFPA mandates that this dredging must be economically, environmentally and socially sustainable.
