The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Headquarters in Washington, D.C., recently selected Lake St. Croix Beach, Minn., resident and St. Paul District employee Jon Sobiech as the recipient of its National Planning Excellence Enterprise Award.

This annual award recognizes an individual’s contributions to the completion of a Corps of Engineers feasibility study or similarly-scaled planning effort.

Sobiech received this award for taking a leadership role in improving the federal government’s environmental planning efforts and for his outstanding leadership providing environmental support to the Fargo-Moorhead Metropolitan Area Flood Risk Management Project.

“ Jon’s hard work and dedication have been paramount in assisting this project through a challenging path of compliance and schedule demands, ” said Elliott Stefanik, environmental branch planning chief and Sobiech’s supervisor.

Sobiech is a biologist and forester and has been with the St. Paul District since 2002. His role with the Corps involves coordinating between the Corps and other agencies, local and federal; ensuring environmental compliance; responding to the needs of local communities when needed; and overseeing best practices.
