Dredging work at the Manistee Harbor, to be undertaken by MCM Marine Inc, is set to take place in the coming weeks, the City of Manistee said in their latest release.

The contractor is expected to mobilize equipment as early as this week and the work will reportedly start 3,000 feet south of the breakwater wall, and head further south by 2,000 feet.

Dredged material will be placed south of the harbor in the 8-12 depth of water.

According to the announcement, the dredging operations are expected to last 2-3 weeks, depending on weather conditions.

Earlier this year, MCM Marine, Inc., of Sault Ste. Marie, was awarded more than $1 million to dredge approximately 60,000 cubic yards of material from Manistee Harbor and 128,000 cubic yards of material from Portage Lake Harbor.

The dredging contracts were awarded under the Corps’ Multiple Award Task Order Contract (MATOC), which the Detroit District established with 10 companies capable of dredging in the Great Lakes.
