As part of its Continuing Authorities Program Section 204, USACE Buffalo District is creating a new wetland habitat on Unity Island using clean, dredged materials.
The District hosted a site visit earlier this week for the Unity Island Ecosystem Restoration Project, to focus on the topic of ‘beneficial use’.
Beneficial use is the concept of using something that would normally be disposed of, for something useful, USACE said.
For the Unity Island Ecoystem Restoration project, USACE is using clean dredged sediment to build a new wetland area.
This ‘beneficial use’ project will provide new habitat for native plants and animals, highlighting USACE’s commitment to the environment.
