Groundbreaking for Dodson Industrial Levee Improvement Project

Kansas City officials together with Congressman Emanuel Cleaver II gathered last week for a ceremonial groundbreaking for Phase V of the Flood Risk Reduction Project for the Dodson Industrial District in southeast Kansas City, Mo.

The Army Corps’ Kansas City District commander, Col. Doug Guttormsen, was also at the ceremony.

According to USACE, the Dodson Industrial Project scheme, worth around $13 million includes construction of 5,500 feet of earthen embankment to tie together previously completed portions of the flood risk reduction project.

Anticipated to be completed in 2020, the project will provide 0.2 percent annual chance of exceedance level of flood protection to the industrial district.
