HME Construction, Inc. said in its latest announcement that they finalized the Bonneville Lock and Dam Spillway Basin Rock Removal Project on February 17, 2018.

According to the official statement, the project consisted of rocks removal operations in various bays and in the apron.

The rock moves around during spill operations, which means the large stones can damage the concrete structure below the spillway, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Portland District, said.

Leaving the rock where it’s at is not an option,” said Matthew Cutts, Portland District critical infrastructure project manager. “If it were left unchecked, the rock could cause damage to the infrastructure and make repairs much more difficult and costly.”

The work was finished ahead of schedule as to not interrupt with the annual cycles of fish migration and related maintenance periods, said HME Construction.
