Dragflow, an Italian manufacturer of heavy duty pumps and complete dredging equipment, recently delivered two EL604B pumps for the Moungo river sand extraction project in Cameroon.

The river, known for having the best quality sand for construction purposes around Douala, is 150 kilometer long, rising in the Rumpi Hills and swelled by tributaries from Mount Kupe and the Bakossi mountains.

Moungo sand has always been known for its top quality for construction, but there is an issue which makes extraction work complicated: the high quartz concentration (mostly due to neighboring volcanic activity) which can be extremely abrasive for metal components.

Commenting the project, Alfredo Ranaldi, Dragflow Sales Manager for Africa, said: “Sand extraction can be a thought business, and it can become even more difficult when there are very abrasive materials to handle.”

“A quarry company operating in Cameroon has found an interesting solution for this problem: using heavy duty submersible pumps to perform the task.”

Dragflow pumps are well known for their resistance, and now one of the biggest sand quarries on the Moungo river in Cameroun is relying only on Dragflow pumps for their sand extraction, proving this equipment can be extremely reliable even for the toughest applications.”

“Only a few pumps can handle this environments, and we’re proud to see that Dragflow pumps can become the center piece of such an aggressive application.”

The quarry is running on two Dragflow pumps producing an average of 100 trucks of sand per day. The pumps are working up to 15m deep (depending on the season) and have started providing a continuous supply of sand to the different construction projects in Douala.

The Italian manufacturer provided not only the equipment but also after sale assistance to maintain the pumps efficiency.
