Donnelly Pushes for Murrough and Arklow Coastal Defenses

Business & Finance

Stephen Donnelly, TD for Wicklow and East Carlow, yesterday met with Minister of State for OPW and Flood Relief, Kevin ‘Boxer’ Moran, to raise the need for investment in both the Murrough and Arklow coastal defenses.

The people of Wicklow are deeply concerned about the continued erosion of the Murrough, said Donnelly in his latest announcement.

The people of Arklow have also expressed their concerns around the closure of public walkways, and the potential for flooding of residential areas. All of these issues were raised with the minister, and all were taken seriously, added Donnelly.

“I am very happy to report that minister Moran has agreed to meet with Wicklow County Council and local OPW officials to discuss this issue. The minister will to tour the areas in Arklow and Wicklow affected by coastal erosion early next year.”

Following this meeting, Donnelly said that he will be seeking OPW support for extensive surveys to be conducted at these areas. These surveys will form the basis of the works required.
