Meeting on Stockton Beach Erosion Takes Place This Week

A community meeting on the ongoing erosion issue of Stockton Beach in Newcastle, New South Wales, will take place at the Stockton Surf Club on November 2 from 6:30pm, Save Stockton Beach said in its latest announcement.

Lord Mayor of Newcastle, Nuatali Nelmes, is expected to attend the meeting, and an open invitation has been extended to all interested community members.

“It is great opportunity for the community to have a real conversation about the outcomes we wish to achieve,” Save Stockton Beach said in its facebook post.

“This has been going on for a long time now, we had meetings with council last year discussing solutions but nothing has really come of that,” meeting organizer Simon Jones said. “We are trying to kick-start the conversation again.”

The long standing issue of erosion on Stockton Beach has already threatened the local surf club, and left part of the Stockton Colliery protruding meters out of the sand in June, the Newcastle Herald reports.

Now residents are coming together at an open community meeting to search for a permanent solution.
