The City of Biloxi, MS, said in its latest announcement that the dredging work is currently underway at Point Cadet Marina.

This cleanup scheme is part of a $711,000, year-long project that includes deepening of the Sherman L. Canaan Back Bay Fishing Dock, and canals at Hiller Park and three areas north of the bay, off Mercedes, North Haven and Holly Hills drives.

The work, which began in August and is being performed by the firm J.E. Borries, will double the depth of water in areas.

The Canaan fishing dock at the north end of Lee Street, home to more than two dozen huge steel-hulled shrimp trawlers, has already been deepened to six feet as part of the project. Some of the areas of the dock had been as shallow as two feet, the city said.

Point Cadet Marina, home to more than a hundred pleasure craft and charter boats, will be deepened to 7.5 feet from its current depth of 4.5 feet in some areas.
