Business & Finance

The Town of Kill Devil Hills will today, July 26, hold a public meeting on the ongoing beach nourishment projects in the County of Dare.

According to the town, the public update meeting on the northern Dare beach nourishment projects is set to start at 1:00 p.m. in the Meeting Room at the Administration Building, 102 Town Hall Drive, off Colington Road.

Officials from Great Lakes Dredge and Dock, APTIM coastal engineering firm, and state and local representatives will be present to provide general updates on the project schedule and progression.

GLDD was awarded the $38 million Dare County Beach Nourishment Project back in 2016. During the works, approximately 4 million cubic yards of sand will be dredged and pumped on shore to replenish the coast in towns of Duck, Kitty Hawk, and Kill Devil Hills.

The company has already completed the Duck portion of the project, which started in May 2017, and is putting finishing touches in the town of Kill Devil Hills.

GLDD is planning to complete the entire project by this fall.
