Town of Duck Beach Nourishment Project About to Begin

Business & Finance

Great Lakes Dredge and Dock Company will in the next couple of days begin preconstruction activities for the Town of Duck Beach Nourishment Project.

According to the town, GLDD is ready to start survey work in the beach nourishment project area. This work will include people walking along the beach and dunes taking information, as well as driving on the beach.

Dare County, the contracting entity for the project, awarded the $38.6 million contract to GLDD back in April 2016.

For this project, the sand will be taken by a dredge from offshore sand sources and pumped onto the beaches of the Towns of Duck, Kitty Hawk and Kill Devil Hills.

The construction, originally scheduled in the Town of Duck for April 1 to approximately June 1, 2017, is now projected to begin in late May and continue through late July.

Work will continue next in Kitty Hawk late June through late August, followed by Kill Devil Hills early August through mid-September 2017.
