Congressman Bilirakis Supports Anclote River Dredging Plans

Business & Finance

U.S. Congressman Gus Bilirakis took to the House floor yesterday to support a flooding relief provision in the Water Infrastructure Improvements for the Nation Act (WIIN Act).

The WIIN Act promotes public-private partnerships for dredging projects, helping the USACE successfully finish them at lower costs and paving the way for completing the Anclote River Dredging project in Tarpon Springs.

Dredging the Anclote River would provide relief for local residents from repeated flooding issues and support commerce in the area, according to the representative’s announcement.

“This legislation includes a number of great provisions for Florida and my district, including promoting public-private partnerships for dredging projects,” said Bilirakis.

“Allowing these partnerships will help clear the backlog of Army Corps projects, at or below cost, all while adhering to Federal maintenance standards.

“This means that there will be more opportunities for projects to be completed in a reasonable timeframe, such as the federally authorized Anclote River Dredging project in my district.

“Dredging the Anclote River would provide relief for local residents from chronic flooding and bring back commerce to the Tarpon Springs area.”

The House is expected to take up the WIIN Act this week.

Congressman Bilirakis and the entire Greater Tampa Congressional Delegation wrote a letter to the USACE recently, supporting funding for the Anclote River dredging project.
