Business & Finance

The Westport-based grab hopper dredger Kawatiri has arrived in Eastland Port and is ready to undertake some cleanup work in the area.

“It’s here for a routine three week dredging operation to remove the sediment that builds up in the harbor navigation channel and turning basin,” Eastland Group said in its latest announcement.

According to the announcement, the crew will be working 12 hours a day until the operation is completed.

As well as dredging the Buller River and bar, the Kawatiri is also responsible for undertaking outport dredging in Nelson, Greymouth and Gisborne.

Located right in the heart of Gisborne city, Eastland Port is the most easterly commercial shipping port in New Zealand.
