Mianus River Dredging Scheme Kicks Off

Business & Finance

The Mianus River dredging project, which will be completed under the terms of a $2.2 million contract recently awarded by the USACE’s New England District, officially started last week.

Work will be accomplished by Coastline Consulting and Development, LLC of Branford, Conn.

This cleanup scheme was set to begin earlier but was delayed because of bad weather.

“This project consists of mechanically dredging approximately 50,000 cubic yards of fine-grain clay and silt from the authorized 6-foot deep, by 100-foot wide Federal channel,” said Project Manager Jack Karalius, of the Corps’ New England District, Programs and Project Management Division in Concord, Mass.

“The dredged material will be disposed of using open water placement approximately 8 miles from the project site.”

The dredging window, due to environmental constraints, is October 1 to January 31.

The state of Connecticut is funding the entire project.
