Manson Wins Redwood City Dredging Contract

Business & Finance

Manson Construction Co., a Seattle based heavy civil marine construction and dredging company, has won a $7.8 million firm-fixed-price contract for maintenance dredging of the Redwood City harbor channel.

“Bids were solicited via the Internet with two received,” according to the U.S. Department of Defense (DoD).

Work will be performed in Redwood City, California, with an estimated completion date of December 29, 2016.

Redwood City Harbor, the only deepwater port in South San Francisco Bay, is located approximately 25 miles southeast of the City of San Francisco.

The main goal of this dredging scheme to allow the new, larger vessels that currently call on the port and require more than the authorized depth to carry more tonnage.

These vessels are forced to light-load and top-off at other ports, significantly adding to the cost of calling on the port.

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, San Francisco District, is the contracting activity.
