Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) has won a contract to dredge a harbor entrance channel in F. Bilehdhoo, according to the Republic of Maldives’ Ministry of Housing and Infrastructure latest announcement.

The main scope of this major development project, scheduled to last 160 days, will involve construction of a 68 meter rock armor breakwater and a 24 meter wide channel in the F. Bilehdhoo area.

Minister of Housing and Infrastructure, Dr.Mohamed Muizzu, signed the contract agreement on behalf of the Government of Maldives and Managing Director of MTCC, Mr. Ahmed Kurik Riza, inked the deal on behalf of the company.

The government has therefore made the decision as per the wishes of the people to replace the entrance channel and build the breakwater as the harbor isn’t usable,” said Dr. Muizzu at the signing ceremony.

The Minister also added that the geographical makeup of the island of Bilehdhoo made the current harbor difficult to use.
