Business & Finance

Work on LNG-powered hopper barge “greenports 1” is nearly completed with final touches being made on the EUR 4.9 million vessel.

This unique ship, built by Dutch-based Shipyard Constructions Hoogezand Nieuwbouw (SCHN), will begin its first test run next week, after which the “greenports 1” will set sail to Bremerhaven.

This modern hopper barge has the length of 70.50 meters, width of 10.50 meters and draught of 2.90 meters.

The launching ceremony took place in Foxhol, the Province of Groningen, on Thursday, 31 March 2016.

The SCHN shipyard is a relatively new company which has concentrated on the production of gas tankers for seagoing and inland shipping since it was founded in 2012.

To date, SCHN has built one barge and four small seagoing ships.
