Boskalis to Start Dublin Port Dredging Campaign

Business & Finance

Dublin Port Company (DPC) is about to begin regular maintenance dredging of the port’s navigation channel and berthing pockets to maintain a ruling depth of -7.8m Chart Datum.

According to the DPC, the maintenance dredging campaign has been set for June 20th 2016 and is expected to last for 4-8 weeks.

The international dredging company Boskalis will undertake this maintenance dredging campaign using one of its trailer suction hopper dredgers.

During the works, approximately 285,000m³ of material will be removed from the Dublin harbor. The material will then be taken to the offshore disposal site located to the west of the Burford Bank.

The last dredging campaign was undertaken in 2012 but since then sediment has built up over time causing a reduction in the ruling depth in parts of the navigation channel and berthing pockets, thereby hampering day-to-day port operations.
