The land reclamation operations in Addu City Feydhoo are now completed, according to the Maldives’ Ministry of Housing and Infrastructure.

The Van Oord’s trailing suction hopper dredger HAM 318 started dredging and land reclamation works in this area two weeks ago.

Under the contract with the Maldives’ Ministry of Housing and Infrastructure, the HAM’s work will also consist of dredging, reclamation and civil works in the Thinadhoo and Himmafushi areas.

The Feydhoo scheme involved creation of 50 hectares of new land and the construction of a 1680 meter breakwater.

The Thinadhoo part of the project will result in 53 hectares of new land and 1852 meters of breakwater.

In Hinmafushi, 21.6 hectares of land will be reclaimed and an 890 meter breakwater will be constructed as well.

The completion of these projects is expected to take place around the end of this year.
