Carolina Beach Renourishment Project Completed

Business & Finance

Marinex Construction Inc. – a contractor hired by the U.S. Army Corp of Engineers – has completed the beach re-nourishment project in Carolina Beach, NC.

The contractor performing the work has finished pumping sand and is currently removing piping and equipment from the beach, the Town of Carolina Beach said in its latest release.

The Phase 1 of this beach re-nourishment project, also known as the Coastal Storm Damage Reduction program, was completed earlier in March. This phase involved dredging from the ocean and placing sand on the beach from Ocean Blvd. going south through Kure Beach.

Phase 2 of the project was completed ahead of schedule, April 30th 2016, before the turtle nesting season begins May 1. The dredging was done from the inlet, with the pipe laid from the inlet through Freeman Park, and placed along the beach to Harper Ave.

According to the Town officials, the Freeman Park area will be open to vehicles, pedestrians, and campers effective May 1, 2016.
