The East Gippsland Shire is about to begin the maintenance dredging of the approach channel to the Bastion Point boat ramp and also the area around the western launching lane of the concrete ramp.

The shoaling around the western launching lane will be removed with land based excavation equipment to clear sand surrounding the area close to the concrete ramp. It is expected that the removal of this sand will be completed by 11th February 2016.

According to the Council, start of the maintenance dredging operations, aimed to remove the shoaling in the approach channel, has been set for Monday, 22nd February, and will last till Sunday, 28th February 2016.

The dredging operations will be carried out by the Shire’s 8 meter Cutter Suction Dredge (CSD) which will be operating in a confined area and will have sand transfer pipework extending from the dredge to the mainland.

Operations will be conducted during daylight hours and with favorable weather and sea conditions only.
