Melbourne Study Underway

Business & Finance

Cardno’s marine and freshwater ecology group is currently undertaking statistical analyses and reporting of ‘sponge garden’ habitat in Melbourne’s Port Phillip Heads.

The work will determine the trajectory of recovery of the habitat affected by dredging associated with the deepening of the entrance channel into Port Phillip.

Cardno will examine images collected by Professional Diving Services and will complete the post-dredge monitoring, including that undertaken four years ago by Cardno.

The company has had a significant involvement in the channel deepening project, providing services in a range of marine science disciplines from 2002 to this final step, including hydrodynamics, sediment transport and water quality measurements and modelling, field collection of marine sediment samples, laboratory identifications of marine animals in sediments, statistical analysis and reporting and peer review of marine ecology studies.
