Calcasieu River Dredging Contract Announced

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, New Orleans District, awarded recently Mike Hooks Inc. of Westlake, Louisiana, with a $9.8 million contract for maintenance dredging of the Calcasieu River and Pass.

The Calcasieu River is a 68 mile deep draft navigation channel located in southwest Louisiana. The Calcasieu River Ship Channel provides deep draft access to the Port of Lake Charles, which is currently the 13th largest port in the nation based on tonnage.

The dredging includes removal of material from a specific reach of the Calcasieu Channel (mile 15.0 to mile 36.0) and satisfactory disposal of material within the disposal areas.

An estimated completion date for the project is June 15, 2016.
