Tybee Island Dredging Video

Business & Finance

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers has just released a video about the Tybee Beach Renourishment project in Georgia.

Under the $10 million contract with the Corps, cutter suction dredge Alaska, owned and operated by the Great Lakes Dredge and Dock Company of Illinois, has been dredging sand from off-shore of Tybee Island onto the beach since mid-October.

GLDD has the task to remove beach-quality sand from the ocean floor and pump it onto the beach where construction workers will place the sand in the most advantageous locations to protect the dunes and property from damage caused by passing storms.

Under the project, approximately 1.3 million cubic yards of sand will be added to the beach front.
